Cleaning Ceiling Fans For Winter & Summer Use

Cleaning your ceiling fan can be an extreme sport, especially in warm weather. With all the dust that settles on the blades, it can be quite tricky to clean conveniently and properly without getting it everywhere.

Safety First:

Before you start your cleaning process, your ceiling fan must be properly turned off. You’d also need a pair of gloves to keep your hands dirt-free and ensure you don’t encounter scrapes or cuts from the blades.

Get a Pillowcase:

As weird as it may sound, the pillowcase method is quite effective when cleaning your ceiling fan although it is just as tasking.

You’d need a pillowcase of course. Wrap it across the ceiling fan blade on both sides and gently drag it over till you get to the end. Yanking it across could damage the blades and cause serious injuries. It could also make you not collect as much dirt as you should or cause the dust to fly everywhere. Take the pillowcase out and shake the dust-out. Repeat the procedure for all the blades of the fan. When you’re satisfied with the cleaning, dust out the pillowcase and wash it in warm water.

Use a Duster:

If you have a long hand duster then that’s good for you. Get your duster and a step stool. Starting from the motor, begin dusting downwards away from your position. Repeat the movement for all the blades and continue until the fan is completely clean. The dust is most likely to fall in a centralized manner so place a table cloth or any wide fabric beneath you to collect it all. Be sure to take your time and do it gently as too much rapid movement can get the dirt flying everywhere. Make sure you’re wearing your facemask especially if you have breathing issues or are sensitive to the dust.

Use a Cloth Wipe:

This is quite similar to the pillowcase method. Get a cloth or a wipe and some disinfectant spray if your fan is too greasy. Spray some disinfectant on the fan blades and wipe gently. Place your hands beneath the blades to stabilize them and avoid pressing down when cleaning. Go over the blades and all the edges. Repeat for all the blades. Do the same for the motor of the fan as well.
